All design work undertaken is developed using a Design for Manufacture (DFM) ethos.

A common misunderstanding is that concept work can be derived without considering engineering principles as it is only concept work and not detailed design, therefore a high degree of accuracy is not required. This is not untrue but unfortunately, even at the concept stage, some basic engineering principles should be applied to give the concept a degree of authenticity and if ignored, can incur financial penalties and time delays further along the development process.

A good-looking 3D model is all well and good, but this does not necessarily translate to components that can be manufactured and it is usually well after the design process is perceived to be finished that manufacturing issues come to the fore. Style over substance is an easy trap to fall into when working in the 3D world.
